The national Waterpolo Academy took place again in the National 50 Metre Swimming Pool, University Arena, Limerick from Wednesday 20th August to Sunday 24th August. The age for participants was: born 1991 to 95.

This year, over 100 young men and women attended the Academy. In addition to numerous pool sessions, the participants underwent training in various land conditioning including Circuit Training, Weight Training, Strength and Fitness Conditioning. There were also sessions on Diet and Nutrition, Motivation and several waterpolo tactical talks.

The Academy was run under the Direction of Conor Sheridan and Tadhg Murphy and notable coaches were in attendance, including Brian O’Dwyer and Victor Kirk.

This year, we had an outside head coach for the first time. Dante Dettamanti is the hugely successful former Head Coach of Stanford University and was our Head Coach at the Academy. Dante was a great success and players and coaches learned a great deal – Thanks Dante.

The National Waterpolo Academy is run with the help and support of Swim Ireland and the Irish Sports Council. Without this generous support, it would be very difficult - and expensive - to run. Thanks very much to both bodies.
