Irish Under 16
Cup (Born 1993 or Later)
Lagan Valley
LeisurePlex, Lisburn
January 22-24
2009
The
2009/10 Irish Under 16 (Born 1993 or Later) Cup Championships took place in
the Lagan Valley Leisureplex, Lisburn, on the weekend of January 22-24 2010.
St Vincent's once again won both Men’s and Women’s
Championships, but their Final opponents were not the ‘usual suspects’.
In the Women’s Cup, Vincent’s had a hard game
against a very dogged and determined Glenalbyn side. There was little between
the teams, with Glenalbyn leading for much of the game. However, the
experience of the Northsiders, together with a tough determination not to
surrender their title brought Vincent’s through in the end.
Vincent's captain Mairéad Baker, her team mate
Lisa Kelly starred for the Champions, ably assisted by Rachel Murphy. Glenalbyn’s
left-hander Aoife Murray was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’. Eva
Banks was also to the fore, as was her young sister Isobelle - equally good
scoring goals and stopping them in goals.
The Men’s final brought Clonard up against St
Vincent's. The Dublin lads had top performers in Conor Bridgeman, Frankie
Fazekas and keeper Stephen Murray. Connell Morgan in the Clonard goal was
also in great form, together with his team mate and MVP CJ Johnston.
Well done to all the players. Congratulations to Tournament
Director Denver Kirk and the Ulster Branch, all the referees and officials.
